Recruited under the mandate of Thomas Tuchel, Thilo Kehrer left the capital to join West Ham during the summer. The 2022 World Cup deadline played a big role in making this decision.
With 128 appearances (4 goals and 2 assists) during his time in the capital between 2018 and 2022, Thilo Kehrer unfortunately never established himself as an indisputable starter. During last season, the German defender only had 16 starts, a correct total but insufficient in his eyes.
This lack of playing time therefore prompted the 26-year-old to pack his bags and join West Ham United. “For the World Cup, it was important to play a lot,” explained the latter at a press conference.
This choice seems rather profitable since the defender plays regularly with the London club (5 starts in 7 seven days of the championship). He is also one of the 24 players chosen by Hans Dieter Flick to face Hungary and England.
